The most beneficial fruits
American scientists have researched the fruits and vegetables of highest nutritional value and have identified those containing the most vitamins, minerals, fibre and proteins.
The first place is taken by the citruses and the second by the strawberries. On the top of the list we find the lemons. Health Day, cited by BNT, reported that the oranges, the limes and the pink and red grapefruit come after the strawberries.
Despite the glory of the blueberries, the raspberries take the sixth place in this classification, followed by the white grapefruit.
These results should not make you ignore the blueberries and raspberries. The fruits we eat should be of all colours of the rainbow. Thus we can ensure the greatest variety of nutrients and phytochemicals, which are not confined to vitamins and minerals only.
Ripeness is an important criterion when choosing fruit. The greener ones have less nutrients.
The scientists from William Paterson University have taken into consideration the vitamin B group, including thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folate, B6 and B12, the vitamins A, C, D, E and K, as well as potassium, calcium and zinc - in total 17 elements that are very important for good health
